Malagouzia
The Cinderella of the Greek vineyard, Malagouzia, uniquely suits the climate of Velvento. It started its journey with a few bottles, about 1000 and its great response led to the increase of its production to 3500 bottles. The vines are cultivated at an altitude of 400 meters and are influenced by both the Pieria Mountains and Polyphytos lake. The special meso-climate is ideal for the ripening of the grapes while at the same time it helps to maintain the acidity at high levels.
Winemaking & aging
Once the grapes have reached optimum ripeness, we proceed to manual harvest and strict sorting, both in the vineyard and in the winery. The wine ferments with selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks, at low temperatures. After that it is bottled, enclosing all the fruity characteristics of the variety in the bottle.
Tasting notes
It has pale lemon color with greenish hues and intensely aromatic nose, with aromas of lime, pineapple, white peach, grapefruit, lemon blossom and lemon zest. On the palate it has medium body, medium to high acidity and a discreet oily mouthfeel. Juicy fruits such as lemon, lime, grapefruit, citron, nectarine and pineapple are mixed with hints of hyacinth, lemon blossom and chamomile.
Food & winepairing
It can accompany green salads, dishes of Asian cuisine such as curry and fried rice and seafood such as sauteed squid. It also goes well with light vegetable dishes such as spinach risotto and pasta with basil pesto.
